Bio
I love learning! I was homeschooled through high school, began college at 16, and went on to earn two graduate degrees while teaching full-time in both high-school and college classrooms. I became a tutor to continue the privilege of doing what I love most -- reading, writing and thinking critically about the world -- in the way that fits each learner's unique needs. I believe students learn best through clear structure and active engagement. My goal in tutoring is to help students build strong academic skills and habits along with joy and curiosity. My students know I genuinely want them to succeed, not only in their current coursework, but in all their future endeavors.
Teacher Specialization
For the past 20+ years, I have taught 7th-12th grade English and Social Studies courses (including AP) in diverse, high-performing high schools. I have also taught composition, creative writing and literature courses in colleges and universities while pursuing my masters in Creative Writing and my doctorate in English Literature. I have tutored students in a variety of subject and contexts throughout my career, including as Lead Tutor and Administrator of the tutoring program in the large, award-winning urban public high school where I also served as an English teacher and that department's chair.
