Bio
Outside of my professional role, I enjoy baking sourdough, reading, gardening, and spending time with my family of 4. I chose to be a tutor because much like growing bread or growing vegetables, I enjoy watching students grow in confidence! Using explicit, multisensory approaches to build foundational skills is important to me because I want to ensure students feel empowered to put their learning to use. I use data to individualize each session, so instruction feels tailored and targeted to student's areas of growth! My primary goal is to build confidence; I want your student to come to a tutoring session and leave feeling empowered with what they learned. Building strong relationships is central to my tutoring sessions with your student. I want to prioritize creating a warm, structured environment where your student feels safe to ask questions, be brave enough to make mistakes, and celebrate their successes!
Teacher Specialization
I specialize in early literacy development for students in kindergarten through fifth grade, with a focus on foundational reading skills and targeted intervention. I bring 10 years of teaching experience in elementary reading and mathematics, with additional licensure as a Reading Specialist in Virginia. I began as a 4th grade teacher but found my true passions as an interventionist in reading and mathematics. My expertise includes evidence-based practices aligned with the science of reading, including classroom training from the Academy of Orton Gillingham Practitioners and Educators. I especially enjoy supporting students in multisensory approaches, including manipulatives such as Playdoh, sand, cubes, or being physical with movement!
