Bio
My name is Amanda Long. I believe the most effective way to teach young learners is to meet them where they are developmentally. My favorite moments in the classroom were working with students in small groups or one-on-one, where I could provide individualized attention, build strong relationships, and foster meaningful growth. As a tutor, I focus on helping students gain confidence, skills, and independence without the distractions of a full classroom. I truly enjoy watching learners grow and step into the next stages of their education. I have dedicated over 20 years to teaching and became a tutor to focus on what I love most—working directly with students. I am deeply committed to helping young learners reach their full potential. I grew up in Michigan and have lived in South Carolina for 20 years. My family, faith, and strong values are central to who I am. I enjoy crafting, gardening keeping chickens. Being outside with my family and animals on a beautiful day is my happy place.
Teacher Specialization
I taught Kindergarten and First Grade for 15 years, building strong expertise in early literacy and child development. I hold a Master of Arts degree from Michigan State University and a Bachelor’s degree from Eastern Michigan University with a focus on early childhood education and teaching reading. Before teaching in the classroom, I worked in daycares, summer camps, and preschools, strengthening my foundation in early learning. After leaving the classroom, I taught online through VIPKid’s virtual platform and later moved into EdTech leadership roles. I partnered with schools across the United States facing teacher shortages, where I trained, coached, and supported educators to ensure students received high-quality instruction.
