Bio
Hi there! My name is Anna Cannavo and I am a Pre-K-4th Grade Pennsylvania certified teacher. I believe in a student-first approach to teaching and tutoring and meeting students where they are at, challenging their mindset to have more open-ended thinking, and providing real time feedback so students are actively self correcting and learning to modify. I always strive for my students to do at least 1% better in every tutoring session. This might mean recalling information from a session prior or reading a word they at one time stumbled over. As a professional dancer and dance educator, I embrace creativity and unique approaches to tutoring since every student deserves to be supported in ways that best suit them. I strive to create positive and nurturing relationships with students to ensure that we can have a positive and trusting experience during each session. The more a student trusts and can be personable with a tutor, the more efficient their learning will be!
Teacher Specialization
I have been in education professionally for 3 years, but have been in teaching assistant or educational roles since my time in high school. I have some virtual teaching experience through FID days (flexible instruction days) during the winter months. I have taught in kindergarten, second and fourth grade, as well as tutored in 5th grade math and 2nd grade reading/writing/math. I have a B.A. in Elementary Education PreK-4 and a B.A. in Dance from Point Park University. I am a Youth Mental Health First Aid educator and have completed courses in Common Sense Education and developmentally appropriate teaching practices.
