Bio
Salvete omnes! Greetings to you all! My name is Bethany Tolbert, and I am excited to help you build your skills as a "word-smith"! I am a lover of language, holding a Masters Degree in English Literature as well as a Minor in Classical Languages, including Greek and Latin. I view the use of language, both written and spoken, as the most important and impactful of human behaviors. As such, it is my goal to help my students to understand others via the arts of reading and listening, and to be better understood through the arts of speaking and writing. In my sessions, we will practice all these disciplines, and through them build our minds, our characters, and our relationships with our fellow human beings!
Teacher Specialization
I bring to the table nearly ten years of professional education experience. I have both tutored and taught in language arts, Greek, and Latin at the middle, high school and college level. I have six years of experience teaching in the brick-and-mortar classroom and two years of experience in the online world, guiding students through virtual modules and video-based learning sessions. My areas of expertise are literary and rhetorical analysis, and I have taught several years of 7-12th Grade English as well as AP Language and Composition. As for the classical languages, I have taught both introductory and advanced Latin, and have tutored several one-on-one students in reading Classical and Attic Greek.
