Bio
EVERY student can and wants to learn, but some just need the right motivator. That's where I come in! By building trusting relationships with each of my students, developing engaging lessons that inspire creativity and make learning fun, and fostering a safe, postive environment that encourages student risk-taking, I aim to help students THRIVE in areas where they once lacked confidence. Growing up, English was always one of my favorite subjects - particularly the art of storytelling. From getting to know the characters in the stories I read, to crafting characters in stories of my own, I came to realize that life itself is made up of stories. We all have conflicts to combat, villains to vanquish, and triumphs on the other side of our trials. I strive to be the supporting character in my students' stories - the one that cheers them on and gives them the tools they need to achieve that long-awaiting victory. May I join your story today?
Teacher Specialization
Although I'm new to virtual education, I've spent four and half years in the traditional classroom setting teaching primarily middle school (6-8) English. I've taught a variety of learners with diverse backgrounds and learning abilities and recognize that although I am a teacher, first and foremost, I am a learner just like my students. Every student is an individual, and therefore, requires you to learn them, learn what they need, and learn how to best meet those needs. This belief makes me confident that I can learn how to utilize the online teaching platform to best meet the needs of each student in front of me. In addition to English, I've also taught Reading Lab, a class designed to help struggling students build essential reading skills, and served as Yearbook Adviser, a position in which I was able to utilize my journalism and design skills from Texas Wesleyan University, where I served as Editor-in-Chief of the student newspaper while earning my B.S. in Mass Communication.
