Bio

Hi, my name is David Ernst. I live in the foothills of western Maine and enjoy skiing and playing the banjo. I have 3 daughters that I love to cook for. Tutoring has been my favorite way to teach, allowing me to figure out what students are thinking and how to explain concepts so that they get it. I believe that anyone can do math, and that there is no such thing as a "math person". Students often develop a negative attitude towards math, thinking they can't do it or it doesn't come naturally to them. I hope to help students reprocess how they think and feel about math, gain confidence, and at least like math a little. When students get a wrong answer, I say "Yes! Now we can learn something".

Teacher Specialization

I have 15 years of teaching experience. After teaching 3rd grade for 8 years, I realized how much I loved working with students in mathematics and pursued a Master's degree in Elementary Education. I taught 5-9 grade math for many years. I currently spend my time as a substitute teacher, enjoying jumping from Algebra 2 to kindergarten the next day.
