Bio
Hello! My name is Emmet Walsh and I have been an educator for more than 10 years. I have experience teaching in grades Kindergarten through 5th grade, with most of my recent experience being in Math, Social Studies, and Science. My wife and I live in the suburbs of Atlanta, Georgia. My wife and daughter are also teachers in the Atlanta area, and my son is a Junior in college. In addition to teaching in the classroom, I have been a math tutor, both in-person and online, for many years. This is my first year teaching with K12 Tutoring/Stride, and I am looking forward to getting started! I believe that learning should be fun and engaging, so I try to create an environment where my students feel excited about learning and can relate their learning to real-world applications both inside and outside of the classroom.
Teacher Specialization
When working with students in math, I like to make sure that they are proficient in the basic fundamentals of math, like number sense, so that their level of understanding can be taken from the concrete level to the abstract level. Being able to work fluently with numbers helps to build the base for all future learning of math concepts. Based on a student's needs, I like to spend at least a few minutes working on math fluency in each session in order to get our brains warmed up for the rest of the lesson. I provide modeling of the math strategies, along with guided practice and then independent practice. I also like to provide encouragement and positive feedback along the way. Your student's needs set the pace of our lessons. I'm looking forward to working with you and your student!
