Bio
I am Haley Carney, and I enjoy reading, crafts, outdoor activities, and spending time with family and friends. I am motivated as an educator to help students cultivate a love for learning that hopefully carries on with them throughout their lives. I believe that students are most successful when lessons are structured to meet individual needs through differentiation and scaffolding. Checking for student understanding frequently gives feedback that can be used to adjust lessons to find what strategies work best for each learner. My goal as a tutor is to help learners grow academically through building a toolbox of strategies that can help them flourish in and outside of the school environment. I believe that students need to know that they are valued and that, as a tutor, it is important to create a safe, supportive learning environment for students.
Teacher Specialization
I have a bachelors degree in elementary education with a K-12 reading endorsement. I also have a masters in curriculum and instruction. I have worked as an elementary teacher in grades K-3 for the past seven years. I have also volunteered as a grades 4/5 math tutor and 3rd grade reading tutor. I have worked the past five years as the EL lead for my grade level. I have worked as an educator for 7 years in person and 2 years virtually.
