Bio
I believe that ALL students have the ability to learn. By meeting students where they are at and meeting their individual needs they begin to feel more confident in their learning and growth happens. Learning can be so much fun and I want all students to see that. I also believe that every student learns differently, taking time to discover what works best to help that student learn is just as important as the learning itself. It's my job to discover A students learning style/s and use that to help them grow. Building a positive relationship with a student is the first thing I do when I work with someone new. I want my students to know I care about them and their learning. If I am not at home you will find be at the ice rink where my 3 girls play. I took this year away from the classroom to homeschool my 9 year old who has a learning disability in reading. It has been a blessing to watch her grow with individual instruction. I want my tutoring students to see the same growth.
Teacher Specialization
I have taught Self-Contained Special education for the past 14 years. I have a Masters degree in Special Education. I have taught K students through 6th grades students and no two are alike. Not only have I developed IEP's for these students that align to state standards and their individual needs, I have taken the time to get to know the child and work with them to grow in all areas. I have taught in all subject area's including reading, writing, math, social studies and science. I have also taught social emotional skills, self-help skills, task related skills, emotional regulation and behavioral skills. I have also worked with parents to help with difficulties they might be seeing at home. Over the years the majority of my students have had Autism, ADHD, Down Syndrome, specific learning disabilities and multiple disabilities. I modify and adapt lessons to meet individual student needs to help each of my students see their success. No growth is too small and I celebrate it all!
