Bio
My name is Heather Wathen. Since beginning my teaching career, I have also tutored students with reading difficulties, helping them build confidence and strong literacy skills. My teaching philosophy is that every child can succeed when learning is engaging, supportive, and tailored to their needs. I strive to make learning fun so students are excited to come and learn with me. Building strong relationships is at the heart of my work, and I enjoy getting to know each student as an individual. By creating a positive and encouraging environment, I help students develop confidence, a love of learning, and the skills they need to reach their full potential.
Teacher Specialization
I am an educator with 21 years of teaching experience. I earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from Indiana University Southeast and am licensed in Orton-Gillingham (OG) instruction. For the past five years, I have taught students online, creating engaging virtual lessons that keep learners motivated and involved. In addition to classroom teaching, I have tutored students both in my home and virtually throughout my career, providing individualized instruction tailored to each child's needs. My greatest joy is helping students discover their potential and gain confidence in their abilities. I believe learning should be interactive, encouraging, and enjoyable. By building strong relationships with students and families, I create a supportive environment where children feel comfortable taking risks, asking questions, and celebrating their growth. Watching students become confident, successful learners is what inspires me every day.
