Bio
Hello, I'm Helayne. I enjoy teaching and I have worked with many different age groups and abilities in my two decades as a teacher and tutor. Teaching reading and writing is my specialty. I have a Master of Arts degree in Curriculum and Instruction and I am licensed to teach Kindergarten through twelve grade. In addition, I have specialized training in the Science of Reading and teaching English as a Second Language. I also possess a certificate in college advising. I teach critical thinking, organization and time management skills as well. My goal is to help students achieve both grade level proficiency and excellence beyond what is required. One of the ways I do this is by creating a very positive and supportive learning environment. An interesting fact about me is that I speak French fluently. I love to travel and have visited fifteen countries.
Teacher Specialization
I have worked as both an English teacher and academic tutor for reading and writing in elementary, middle and high school grades. Additionally, I have taught English learners and students with attention issues, and I enjoy helping students achieve their goals. For many students, breaking assignments in to more manageable parts is a valuable tool that I help them use to aid with organization and the successful completion of work. One of my greatest strengths as an educator is my ability to see each student as an individual, and I effectively differentiate my instruction according to different needs. As I build positive and meaningful realtionships with students, I also communicate that I believe in them and have high expectations for their success.
