Bio
Hello, my name is Kala and I am here to help you meet success in math! I am ready to break down the skills you need and help make it all make sense. My goal is to create a judgement-free zone where students will be comfortable taking risks and sharing their ideas. I believe students are most successful when instruction is tailored to their individual needs and learning styles and am looking forward to guiding your student along their educational journey. I know that math anxiety is real but through the years I have helped many students to overcome it and see themselves as lifelong math learners. Let's work together to help your child realize they are a 'math person' after all!
Teacher Specialization
I earned both my bachelor's and master's degrees in Education from UCONN (go HUSKIES!) and have been a lifelong teacher and learner ever since. I have been a classroom teacher in both 1st and 2nd grades, a math teacher for grades 7 and 8, a math interventionist and even a distance learning teacher for a few years teaching 2nd and 3rd graders remotely. I am certified to teach K-8 with additional certifications in middle grades math and ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages). Most recently, I have been working as a grade 7 math teacher at a public school in Connecticut and have continued to find fulfillment in helping students overcome math anxiety and grow as learners. I am now looking forward to a new adventure as a K12 Tutor!
