Bio

Hi! I’m Kayla, an educator who believes every student can grow when they feel supported, challenged, and genuinely known by their teacher. My educational philosophy centers on meeting students where they are, providing clear and encouraging feedback, and using engaging, differentiated instruction to help them build both skills and confidence. As a tutor, my goal is to create a space where students feel comfortable asking questions, taking risks, and celebrating their progress while working toward greater independence. I build strong relationships by listening to students, learning about their interests and strengths, and maintaining high expectations while providing the patience and encouragement they need to succeed. I bring warmth, energy, humor, and consistency to my sessions because I want students to look forward to learning with me.

Teacher Specialization

I bring more than 20 years of experience in education as a classroom teacher instructional leader, and administrator. I have taught and supported students across elementary, middle, and high school, with a strong focus on ELA/reading, writing, social studies, and humanities. I also have experience with virtual instruction and online learning platforms, using technology to provide engaging instruction, individualized feedback, and academic support. I hold a bachelor’s degree in Sociology and a master’s degree in the Science of Teaching from Fordham University, along with teaching and school leadership certifications and a Level 5 TEFL certificate. My areas of specialization include literacy, reading comprehension, writing, social studies, humanities, differentiation, and supporting students who are performing below grade level. I am especially skilled at breaking complex skills into manageable steps and using student data to target instruction and help learners make measurable progress.
