Hello and Welcome to K12 Tutoring! My name is Kelly Harris, and I live in Green Valley, AZ (just south of Tucson). My philosophy of teaching is grounded in meeting students where they are, respecting their unique needs, and developing personalized learning plans and goals to help them progress. I build relationships with my students by connecting on a personal level and sharing some personal information about my life. When I assess through diagnostic/screener (s), I create a personalized learning plan that pinpoints the gaps in learning. My teaching approach, through the Science of Reading, offers scientifically based, direct, systematic instruction. I incorporate interactive activities into my lessons as often as possible, to make learning enjoyable and relevant.
Teacher Specialization
I’ve been in education for over 20 years, starting as a Title I Reading teacher, moving into a Reading Coach role, and then a Director of Reading. I have a passion for literacy and an obsession with ensuring each student I tutor has the capacity to be a proficient reader. My specialty is Foundational Skills, K-2 (print concepts, phonological awareness, phonics, high-frequency words, and fluency). I have specialized training K-12 through LETRS. I have a little over a year teaching virtually.
