Bio

Hi, are you wanting to get ahead? Maybe you need to catch up a little or just need a little oomph to get you going. Let’s work together and have a little fun while doing it! Hi! My name is Kendra Thayer, and I look forward to helping your student succeed. I am in my 19th year of teaching, I have experience in both traditional classrooms and online learning. Students learn best when they have a structured environment, feel safe, supported, and heard. My goal is to build strong rapport with each student, helping them gain confidence and reach those exciting “ah ha!” moments. I want students to relax so they ask questions even if they stumble or fail, but will still try again. My experience has shown me every student learns differently, in that I have adapted breaking down topics in a variety of ways to help students reach that understanding. I spend my time with family/friends, and have many different interest. I look forward to working with your student to be confident and successful.

Teacher Specialization

I have been a social studies teacher going into my 19th year. This will be my second-year tutoring with K12. I have taught middle and high school grades 7-12. This last year with k12 tutoring I had a long-term tutoring with 6th graders. I am currently working and going into my 9th year with Indiana Digital Learning School. My first 7 years with INDLS I taught 8th grade US History. Beginning after fall break in my 7th year I was moved to high school to teach Global Economics. I taught Economics and all areas of social studies in my first ten years when I worked in brick and mortar. I did not traditionally seek out education. I didn’t realize it was a calling until a little later. My undergraduate degree was in political science and business. In my own journey that has brought me here, it has given me a lot of life experiences that I have learned and grown from, but also, I can share with my students to bring them real-world connections.
