Bio
Hello! My name is Kim and I live with a cat, a dog and a husband in the beautiful mountains of North Carolina. I love working on reading skills with students and always try to make lessons fun! I believe that each learner is unique. I strive to meet students where they are and help them move as far as possible along the reading continuum in order to achieve their goals. I know that building relationships with students is essential, and enjoy getting to know their learning styles and interests. I work to build their confidence and to help them feel successful and better about school overall. I love to read, crochet and ride my e-bike whenever I can!
Teacher Specialization
I have worked as Reading Interventionist for more than 20 years, providing tiered, multi-sensory, "high dosage", targeted interventions to students with special needs or who have been identified as needing extra support in phonics, reading fluency and/or comprehension. I primarily served students in grades K-4, but have experience with grades 5-8 as well. Previously, I taught in both self-contained and resource special education settings. I have a BA in Special Education, a Masters in Reading, and I am a Nationally Board Certified Teacher.
