Bio
As an educator I believe in helping students understand who they are as learners and guiding them to find the tools and techniques that will help them to become self-aware and take ownership of their learning. I believe one of the first steps to helping students learn is to get to know their interests and what they think are their strengths and weaknesses. I genuinely enjoy people and talking with them. I recently moved from Florida to Upstate New York. My husband and I bought a few acres in a rural community. I love working on the land, gardening, and hiking. My cat and dog enjoy hiking too. My favorite activity is reading! I love historical fiction, YA fiction, humor, realistic fiction, and gardening books. I love learning! I want to spread that feeling of excitement and accomplishment that comes from being a successful learner!
Teacher Specialization
I have a BA in English Literature and an MA in Reading Education with 12 years experience in teaching Gifted & Talented Learners. I've instructed students in ACT and SAT English; secondary ELA; history; geography; and financial literacy. I was the National History Day Teacher of the Year for my district in 2015. Courses taught: ELA, World History, Pre-AP World History and Geography, AP Human Geography, Financial Literacy, AP Capstone Seminar, & Advanced Academics.
