Hello! My name is Lisa, and I believe every learner is unique. I incorporate a holistic approach as I customize instruction towards how your student learns best. I rely on assessment data and student work samples to provide a baseline starting point for each learner. What do they already know? What can they already do? Data allows me to differentiate for each student's unique goals, and plan intentional lessons in sequences that build upon each other. Through my tutoring, your student will learn skills and strategies that will rapidly help them achieve grade-level proficiency standards. As an avid reader, traveler, and lifelong learner, I have spent the last six years studying Greek. I hope to instill that love of learning and adventure in all of my students. Teacher Specialization
With over 20 years teaching in both private and public schools, and a M.Ed. with a specialization in literacy, I have found that the students who struggle the most with academics are those who struggle with reading. From Kindergarten through 3rd grade, students learn foundational reading skills. Beginning in 4th grade, students use those previously learned reading skills and apply them in specific subjects. If students have difficulty reading and decoding, they tend to struggle with all subjects. I use a lot of modeling when teaching. It looks like, 'I do, we do, you do.' First, I explicitly model what I am asking students to do. Next, student(s) and I work through examples together. Lastly, when students show understanding, they perform the task individually. With 10+ years of K-8 classroom teaching experience, 6 years as a reading specialist, and 6 years of online teaching K-12th grade, you can be confident your learner is well supported as we monitor progress and celebrate growth.
