Bio
Hello!! I’m Mark, a California-credentialed educator and musician who believes learning should be as joyful as it is empowering. My core educational philosophy centers on meeting students where they are—combining structured, rigorous academics with creative, play-infused strategies. By integrating music, rhythm, and interactive problem-solving into my instruction, I make core Math and ELA concepts engaging, memorable, and accessible to young learners. My primary goal as a tutor is to help students build true academic confidence while eliminating the anxiety that can surround challenging subjects. I focus on developing critical thinking, curiosity, and a genuine love for learning that extends far beyond our sessions. I prioritize warmth, empathy, and positive Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) strategies, always taking the time to understand each child's unique personality and learning style, thus creating a safe, supportive space where students feel heard, valued, and motivated to excel.
Teacher Specialization
I specialize in developing strong foundational reading skills, math fluency, and effective comprehension strategies for elementary learners. I hold a B.A. in Philosophy (Logic) from the University of Ulster, a CA Multiple Subject Preliminary Teaching Credential, 24 ECE units from UCLA Extension, and post-graduate Special Education coursework from Arizona State University. My qualifications also include ELL authorization and Google Certified Educator Level 2 certification. My background includes over 10 years of targeted K–12 Math and ELA instruction across several roles: lead TK teacher, multi-grade elementary substitute, special education assistant, and private tutor. I continuously refine my practices through professional development in classroom management and behavioral support. In virtual environments, I draw on my hands-on experience and leverage interactive digital tools, visual media, and music to deliver precise, engaging instruction tailored to each student's needs.
