Bio

Hello. I'm Matthew Portwood, and I teach middle and high school English. I believe in a very practical and common sense approach to help students improve their writing. I can help students by identifying any mechanical errors they may have and then work to help them make the necessary corrections. I can also teach and assess students' writing assignments for the assigned structure. Even after years of teaching literature, I still love to discuss an author's technique: Why did he end the novel the way he did? Why did she choose to have this character behave in this way? Why did she kill off this character? Why did he write his poem from the mother's perspective? I have a relaxed teaching style, but my enthusiasm for the material is obvious.
