Bio

"If we are facing the right direction, all we have to do is keep walking." My first goal as a teacher is to give my students a space where they can build their confidence in education. Most of my students read below grade level, but with patience, lessons focused specifically on my students' needs, and the opportunity to practice in a safe space, they are able to succeed. I specialize in leveling up students who have been behind in their studies through small group instruction, tiered reading, and one on one feedback. Everyone deserves the chance to succeed, and I have been able to help my students both improve their grades and their academic skills.

Teacher Specialization

When I graduated with my BA in Political Science, I didn't know that I wanted to be a teacher. I started working as a substitute teacher part time, and I loved it. In 2020 I received my teaching credential in secondary English and Social Studies from SVSU. My first full time job teaching was for an alternative high school as an English 9/10, World History, and Civics/Economics teacher. My students had walked away from the public school system for many reasons, but what I could offer all of them was a classroom that accepted them, supported them, and offered them the space to grow. I taught there for five years. Last year I made the shift to online teaching with K12, but I still have the opportunity to support students who sometimes feel excluded or behind. I have experience teaching students with ADHD, Autism, BPD, Depression, Anxiety, Bipolar, ODD, and students who have been absent from school for significant periods of time.
