Bio
Hi, my name is Ms. Melissa and I look forward to working with you to improve in your studies! I grew up in WV but now live on the Eastern Shore of Virginia. I believe that all students can learn in their own special ways. I am always still learning myself! Life is a learning process! My teaching approach is focused on creating a supportive and engaging learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and exploring different subject areas. I incorporate interactive activities into my lessons to make learning enjoyable and relevant. I will provide you with clear explanations, ample opportunities for practice, and cons. I have been a teacher for 31 years in West Virginia, Maryland, and Virginia and taught virtually since 2020. I was honored to be chosen Mineral County, WV Teacher of the Year in 2013. A fun fact about me is that I was a ballet dancer before I was a teacher and still teach ballet in my community!

I have been a teacher for 31 years. I have taught 15 years in special education and 16 years in general education. I taught 12 years on a college graduate level. I have tutored students in grades 3-8. I have taught all age levels from birth to 3, K-12, and graduate level students. I have a master's in special education grades K-12 with certification in autism, learning disabilities, mentally impaired, and behavior disorders. I am certified in elementary education grades K-6, math, science, and English grades 6-9, and special education K-12.
