Bio
I believe that students learn best in a safe environment that offers a multi disciplinary approach to teaching. I am a firm believer that communication between myself and my students parents is also key. It is important to instill that we work as a team. The goal with any tutoring session is always that the student feel good about the work we have done together. I aim to help with the lesson, but how the child is feeling is also important. I believe all students can learn and no one student is without hope. I work hard to create a safe space, where I am able to focus on the whole person not just the academics. I am a mom of 5 adult kids and I have 5 grandkids as well. I spent some years learning ASL and thought for a time that I was going to work as an interpreter for the deaf/hard of hearing community . I love kids and I truly enjoy being an educator. I recently retired, but I am not sure I am totally ready to let go of this part of me entirely.
Teacher Specialization
I taught general education 1st, 2nd and 3rd for 6 years before I transitioned to special education. The past 23 years have been in the SDC classroom teaching kinder through 4th grade. I love the littles and this experience has been amazing. I have taught all subjects and I have a multi subject credential. Reading is my favorite, and I am particularly fond of instilling a love of books. I utilize multiple different approaches as I believe that all students can read. I also enjoy a hands on approach to math, and have found that this approach works so well for all my students. I have also worked as a tutor/ RSP teacher for 3 years and have worked with some high school and middle school students as well. I did enjoy the conversations and I am still in contact with my former students.
