Bio
Hi! I am excited for the opportunity to work with your child. I love children of all ages, having been a teacher, a mother, and now a grandmother. Children are a joy to me, and I love helping them in their learning endeavors across all subjects, including math, language arts, science, and history. I teach using positive instruction methods as well as the Mindset for Success techniques. These methods teach one step at a time, positively reinforcing the student through comments on what they are doing correctly and viewing mistakes as a chance to learn. My feedback is authentic and immediate. My primary goal is to help students attain and/or exceed grade-level standards. I enjoy helping the student become more engaged and enthusiastic about learning. Relationships with students are an essential part of teaching. I do this by connecting with them through empathy, genuine validation, and positive reinforcement for the students' endeavors.
Teacher Specialization
I hold a degree in Child Development, which has helped me understand children, a multiple-subject teaching credential, and a master's degree in Education. I have taught all subjects from K-12th for 25 years, including online for five years, initially during the COVID period, and later with online instruction as an option, simultaneously combining online and classroom instruction. For online teaching, visuals, videos, drawing, and games have helped to create interest and illustrate concepts. I teach with an emphasis on positive instruction, which strengthens a person's self-esteem. I believe that children are innate learners and are most engaged when they believe they will be successful in their endeavors.
