Bio
My name is Shawn Hayden and I have recently retired from 24 years spent in brick and mortar education campuses. I have taught both in general and special education as well as served as both an assistant principal and principal in elementary school. My hobbies include reading and creating things in needlepoint. My goal in tutoring is to identify learner's current strengths, areas of need and to help to create a plan with students to increase confidence and capacity. Learning involves augmenting skills as well as the development of critical and creative thinking, making connections and real world application. I strive to provide a safe and supportive learning environment where it is ok to be wrong, take risks and try new things. This is how we all learn and grow! I look forward to tutoring with you!
Teacher Specialization
I hold a B.S. in Interdisciplinary studies from The University of North Texas and a Master's degree from Concordia University Texas. I spent 24 years in education. I have taught third through fifth grade, both in general and special education for eleven years. I spent thirteen years in administration serving both as an assistant principal and principal, so I have worked with many students and observed many elementary teachers! I have recently retired from public education and tutored reading online since January 2025.
