Greetings, I'm Shawn: teacher, musician and gamer. I did not excel at math and science as a student and I understand what it is like to struggle with learning. I followed my bandmates to community college having no idea what I was going to study. I discovered my passion for science while taking a Biological Anthropology class. Developing a passion for math took longer. I had failed Algebra three times in high school but once I had the proper motivation I was able to get through Algebra 1, Geometry, and Algebra 2 in a single year. It wasn’t easy but I was fortunate enough to discover the support I needed to succeed. I look forward to getting to know you and what you are passionate about. I hope I can help you see how math and science are connected to your passions and the real world. I hope I can be the support you need to unlock unlock your potential.
Teacher Specialization
I have thirty years' experience teaching science. While Biology is my specialty, I have taught every science course offered including Chemistry and Physics. While teaching Physics, I found I was asking my students to use skills before they were taught in their math classes. As a result, I spent a lot of time introducing and reteaching Algebra and Geometry concepts. I also have a certification in Applied Math.
