Bio
Hello! I’m Shonta, an experienced educator with more than 20 years of experience supporting students, families, and fellow educators. Throughout my career, I have served in both teaching and instructional leadership roles, giving me the opportunity to work with students with diverse learning styles, strengths, and academic needs. My teaching philosophy centers on meeting students where they are and helping them move forward with confidence. I believe learning should be individualized, engaging, and meaningful. I take time to understand how each student learns best, identify areas where additional support may be needed, and break challenging concepts into manageable steps. I also want students to understand the why behind what they are learning so they can become more confident and independent learners. Ultimately, my goal as a tutor is for every student to leave our sessions feeling more confident, more capable, and proud of their progress.
Teacher Specialization
I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology & Anthropology, a Master of Arts in Teaching Special Education, and an Education Specialist (Ed.S.) degree in Teacher Leadership. My educational background, combined with my years of classroom and leadership experience, has shaped my belief that every student is capable of learning and growing when provided with the right support, encouragement, and opportunities to succeed. I have 19 years of experience teaching students with disabilities (learning disabilities, behavior disorders, autism, and health impairments). My experience has been in the Middle and Elementary School grade bands. I have taught Reading, Math, Science, and Social Studies at those levels. I have been using virtual instructional methods for the last 6 years.
