Bio
Hello, everyone! My students call me Ms. Summer and tell me that just like the season - I'm warm and fun and help them grow! I help all students bloom as readers and writers. I have a Master's in Writing and have taught reading strategies to students at all grade levels. My joy is to introduce students to the gifts inside them as readers, writers, and thinkers. As a teacher, I've cultivated countless readers and writers. Many of my students arrive with low confidence in their abilities. They say: "I don't like reading." Or: "I'm not a good writer." I prioritize building student confidence and self-belief along with academic skills. I teach learning strategies that can be practiced for a lifetime. My students return to me years later to let me know that the skills and strategies they learned with me continue to serve them in college and careers. Just like the summer sun - I light up my student's hearts and minds so they can GROW!
Teacher Specialization
I am a passionate teacher with a BA in Literature and an MFA in Creative Writing. I am certified to teach English Language Arts 8-12 and English as a Second Language 8-12. I have taught all grade levels in both a traditional classroom setting and virtually online. My students flourish, finding a love for books while raising their reading levels, writing proficiency, and test scores - side by side with their self-belief, confidence, and resilience.
