Hello! I’m Dr. Tanya Smith, a passionate educator who believes every student can grow and succeed when they are given the right support, encouragement, and learning environment. My approach to tutoring is patient, positive, and individualized because no two students learn in exactly the same way. My goal is to help students strengthen their academic skills while also building confidence and becoming more independent learners. I work to create a comfortable environment where students feel safe asking questions, making mistakes, and trying again. I enjoy getting to know each student, discovering what motivates them, and finding ways to make learning meaningful and engaging. I believe tutoring should be more than completing assignments or improving a grade. It should help students recognize their strengths, overcome challenges, and begin to see themselves as capable learners. I have approximately 15 years of experience in education, including classroom teaching, special education, curriculum development, educational leadership, and both in-person and virtual instruction and tutoring. I have worked with students across a wide range of grade levels, learning abilities, and academic needs. I am certified in all four core academic subjects—English Language Arts, mathematics, science, and social studies—through 9th grade, as well as K–12 special education. I also have experience teaching and tutoring adults preparing for the HiSET high school equivalency exam. My teaching experience includes supporting students in reading, writing, mathematics, science, social studies, study skills, test preparation, and academic intervention. I have extensive experience differentiating instruction for students who are working above or below grade level and adapting lessons to meet individual learning needs.
