Bio
Hello! I'm Vanessa Flynn, and I live in New York with my husband, four kids, three mini dacshunds and my 16 year old husky! I am so excited to meet and get to know all about you! When I teach, I believe that fostering a safe environment where mistakes and questions are celebrated helps each student to recognize that 'failures' are simply the first step to mastering any skill. I also believe it is essential to teach both the 'how' and the 'why' of everything, and I look forward to doing that with you! I love to incorporate the likes, interests, and sometimes even dislikes of the students into lessons, and love the smile that appears as soon as they see that. My goal for each student is that they not only learn and understand the lessons being taught, but that I have empowered them to successfully apply their new knowledge independently long after they've moved on from here. I can't wait to go on this journey with you!
Teacher Specialization
I have been teaching for 19 years. One of those years I taught third grade and the rest I taught 4th grade. I taught virtually for three of those years. I have tutored K-6 both at school and privately. I have my Bachelor's in Elementary Education from the College of Saint Rose, and my Masters in Literacy from SUNY Albany. I team taught math for nine of my years in 4th grade, and consider math to be my biggest strength.
