Bio
Hello! My name is Vicki. I live in the country with my husband and our cat, Oliver. In my free time I like to crochet and do craft projects. I wanted to be a teacher for as far back as I can remember. I used to practice teaching on my little brother. I have found that often students have misconceptions that they are not even aware of, that are getting in the way of new learning. I try to find these misunderstandings. Once we clear up misconceptions in their learning, we can go back and fill in gaps and attach new learning to what they already know. I also realize that students learn in different ways...some might be more visual, and others might learn through a silly song or jingle. Often students have fragile understanding that we need to strengthen. I think that it is important for students to be comfortable with me and in my classroom. I work to build a good rapport with each one.
Teacher Specialization
I hold a K-6 teaching certificate. I taught fourth grade in the public school for 28 years before retiring and have tutored online for the past 2 1/2 years. In addition to this, I taught ESL online for 2 years.
