Bio

Hi there! My name is Winnie and I am excited to work with you as your tutor! I pride myself on the strong, positive relationships I form with my students to ensure they stay engaged and confident in the work they do. I believe that using my students' interests to help them make connections to the books we read and the problems we solve will help them understand the material in a deeper way. I encourage my students to be curious, to try different methods, and to think of failing as a step towards learning and growing. When I'm not teaching or tutoring, I like to read, crochet, knit, and go to the gym. I'm looking forward to meeting you and helping you reach your academic goals!

Teacher Specialization

I have taught in California elementary schools for 5 years. I have the most experience teaching 5th grade and I can also support students at all K-5 grade levels. I have a bachelor's degree in English and a master's degree in Education. I did my student teaching in 3rd grade, then taught 5th grade in my own classroom. I have worked as a tutor/mentor with UECC AmeriCorps where I worked with students in small groups in Kindergarten, 1st grade, and 3rd grade.
