Bio
Hi! My name is Mrs. Stalcup, and I believe that all students can learn, given the right tools for success and support. I also believe that feedback is important, which is what makes tutoring so valuable. EVERYONE has room to grow, and feedback is a huge piece of that puzzle. I enjoy helping students make real-world connections to their course content and see the best results when I work with students to simplify abstract concepts. I thrive in my ability to help students organize their tasks and tackle coursework, one item at a time. I provide a casual, but professional atmosphere for my students so that they feel comfortable, but ready to learn!
Teacher Specialization
I have 8 years of teaching experience across the spectrum of History and Social Studies-related courses (about 3 years of my teaching experience is online through K12/Stride). I have taught a diverse population of students, and my first year of teaching was at a wonderful school for students with learning differences (many of which were "twice-exceptional / 2E" students). I hold two graduate-level degrees in Education from Old Dominion University, as well as my Bachelor's Degree in Sociology from the University of Virginia. I have also taken course work at the Graduate-level in Sociology. I hold licensure in the state of Virginia in History & Social Studies Grades 6 through 12, as well as an Administrative license in Admin & Supervision, Grades PreK-12. I have taught at the High School level: World History 1, World Geography, World History 2, Government, US History, Economics & Personal Finance, and Psychology. Most of those courses I have taught 2 or more times.
