Bio
I believe everyone can learn math AND be good at it! If you start with what you know about a topic or skill and make it relevant, you can build upon your base knowledge by practicing. Seeing visuals and examples help make things understandable and watching different ways things can be done offers options and deeper learning. Making mistakes and then fixing them is also a great way to learn. Helping students gain confidence in their own abilities is key since when they think they can do it, they usually can! My goals tutoring students include helping them experience success, providing them specific and various strategies to use, and giving them effective feedback while they practice. I am super easy-going and make math fun and meaningful. I am from Pittsburgh, PA and have 3 children and 3 grandchildren. I adore playing board games, cards, outdoor games, gardening, and doing jigsaw puzzles. I love math and have tutored it my whole life, from elementary school through college, and beyond.
Teacher Specialization
I graduated Magna Cum Laud with a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Mathematics Education and have 6 master's degree credits in Online Technology. I currently hold 3 active teaching certificates in Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Florida. I I have tutored and taught all math, 6th grade through 12th grade, including Middle School Math, Pre-Algebra, Algebra I and II, Geometry, Trigonometry, Pre-Calculus, Calculus, and Probability and Statistics for 5 years in traditional schools and 13 years online, both asynchronously and synchronously. For 3 years in-between, I designed and developed online math courses and assessments. I love working with all kinds of students: advanced students in upper level math courses, students who fall behind, and students with math anxiety. As someone who has dealt with other types of anxiety, I understand and can help with anxiety regarding learning and math. I like to make math fun and relatable for students and believe anyone and learn math AND be good at it.
