Bio
As a teacher my greatest joy is to see the light of understanding and the joy of accomplishment on my students' faces. Students learn best when they are confident and encouraged. As a teacher I use ongoing observation and assessment to adjust my instruction so that my students start at the right difficulty level, growing in skill and confidence as they progress. My priority as a tutor is to learn to know my students and guide them in such a way that they will recognize and use their strengths in continued growth. Getting to know and value my students is part of preparing to teach then effectively. When students struggle, my joy comes from teaching them in gentle and effective ways until they become confident and ready to succeed on their own. I am a teacher who perseveres and loves to see my students succeed.
Teacher Specialization
I have 31 years of experience in grades K-4. I have two teaching credentials - K-8, multiple subject, and a Special Instruction Credential in Special Eduation. I also have a Crosscultural, Language, and Academic Development Certificate. In my experience teaching elementary grades, in additional to teaching math, social studies and science, I have had exceptional success in teaching literacy, reading and writing, to children who struggle, focusing on a a strong foundation in phonics leading to fluency and comprehension. I teach writing from the very basics to fluency and creativity in writing sentences, paragraphs, and essays.
