Bio
Hi! My name is Heather MacCorkle. In addition to being a tutor and a certified teacher, I am currently enrolled in an MFA (Master of Fine Arts) program for Creative Writing. By the time I am done, I will have a novel ready to send to the world! That said, I have always considered myself a teacher, even when I was in corporate training helping people learn to use our software. With 15 years experience in training combined with six years in public education and two years as a tutor, I believe I have enough experience to be able to help anyone reach their full potential, whether it be in a physical or virtual environment. I believe students learn best when I meet them where they are, so assessment is a key factor in any session or class. I use several methods, from diagnostics to discussions, to help my students discover their strengths and challenges. My teaching philosophy is simple: I meet my students where they are and help them accomplish more than they thought possible.
Teacher Specialization
I have been a public school teacher for six years. I currently teach AP Literature and Composition, Creative Writing I and II, 10th Grade English, and Poetry. I have taught 11th Grade English in the past. Additionally, I have been tutoring students from around the country in ELA from grades 3 - 12 for the past two years. I have two master's degrees in education, one in Post-secondary and Adult Education and the other a Master of Arts in Teaching, Secondary English.
