Bio
Hi! My name is June Brunelle, and I am looking forward to working with you as your tutor. I feel that students learn best through learning that matters to them. Students usually come to tutoring for help on specific skills, but it’s also important for them to summarize their own learning so that they can make connections and increase their retention of knowledge. Understanding students' interests, cultures, and languages allows me to have positive relationships with students--while also helping me to create student-centered material. Knowing each student individually or in a small group is a perk of tutoring that generally makes students comfortable sharing and speaking about themselves. I enjoy seeing students work through a task or skill that was once a barrier. I often tell students that they may finish with tutoring, but they will always be in my heart!
Teacher Specialization
I have been working in education for over 15 years and am licensed to teach secondary English Language Arts (grades 6-12). I have spent the past 5 years of my career working as a high school English tutor, but I started my career teaching middle school English Language Arts. I recently completed my Masters of Science in Education (M.S.Ed) and focused my final research on authentic, student-centered learning. I often work with special education students and English learners in my face-to-face tutoring classroom, and I am looking forward to working with diverse learners here at K12. Much of my tutoring specialization is related to preparing for standardized reading and writing assessments--specifically the Virginia Standards of Learning (SOL) and ACT WorkKeys assessments. However, I consider myself to be a problem solver. Students can bring any assignment or task, and we can work on it together. If they need help with specific skills, I can prepare lessons to help them practice.
