Bio
My name is Lisa Walkenbach and I have been teaching with Stride since 2015, mostly in math intervention. I am certified to teach elementary, middle school math and social studies. I live in Michigan with my husband, our 3 kids, and 2 dogs and I spend lots of time outside of school cheering on my kids at hockey and soccer or reading as many books as I can. My philosophy of education is that all students want to learn and are on their own unique timeline of how and when the learning process occurs. I believe in differentiating instruction based on student learning style, interest, and current level of understanding. My goals for tutoring are for students to gain confidence and interest in the subject matter, and to be able to demonstrate their increased growth in understanding after working together. I think it is important to build relationships with students to learn their interests, learning styles, and background knowledge to best help students on their learning path.
Teacher Specialization
I started by teaching 1st grade in rural North Dakota and then taught reading and math intervention before starting with Stride in 2015. I teach 6th grade math intervention. I am certified to teach elementary, middle school math, and middle school social studies. I currently have two degrees and will finish my Masters Degree this year.
