Bio
Hello! My name is Lori West. I have been a teacher for 25 years. I have 2 daughters: 25 and 21. I love to read, swim and spend time with family and friends. In the summer, I am a certified lifeguard and I train lifeguards. I chose to tutor because I love to educate and feel there is a need for small group and one-on-one instruction that cannot be found in the traditional classroom. Learners build understanding through discussion, experience and collaboration. I believe in providing meaningful feedback through specific, targeted responses telling students exactly where they are successful and where they need to improve. Learning should build confidence. Understanding is more important than memorization and targeted feedback drives growth. I aim to provide personalized instruction, scaffold support and guided practice with immediate feedback. I can provide skill mastery through understanding and critical thinking.
Teacher Specialization
I have been teaching for over 25 years. I have been teaching middle school math for the last 6 years however I have experience teaching all levels from K-8. I have also tutored on-line for the past 3 years and I have done multiple home-instruction tasks for my current district. My teaching degree is in elementary education K-8 with a certification in middle school math (6-8) and a reading specialist certification (K-12). I have a masters degree in curriculum and instruction with a focus on Language Arts and a masters degree in curriculum and instruction with a focus on Mathematics.
