Bio
Hi, I'm Mackenzie, a born and raised Iowan, where I live with my husband, three children, and three dogs. I love to read, do crafts, and go on outdoor adventures (when it doesn't feel like an arctic tundra). It is my strong belief that all students are entitled to an education tailored to their individual needs in which they receive multiple opportunities to practice skills and immediate, specific feedback. My students learn through a multisensory approach, allowing them to activate as many senses as possible during their learning. I am passionate about helping students to not only grow academically but also to develop a love of learning through engaging lessons developed at their level. I work closely with students and families to develop a learning plan that works towards their personal goals focusing on critical thinking and self-advocacy. I take relationship first approach while tutoring, prioritizing the students social and emotional wellness before focusing on academic goals.
Teacher Specialization
I received my bachelor's degree from Iowa State University in elementary education with specializations in special education and reading. I went on to complete my master's degree in special education at Morningside University, and I am beginning my doctoral program in organizational leadership at Grand Canyon University this Spring. I have 7 years of experience teaching, primarily in special education. This experience includes teaching preschoolers through high schoolers with varying disabilities and levels of need. I began my online teaching career in 2024 as an online tutor for multiple tutoring platforms. In July 2025, I began working for Stride, Inc. as a special education substitute teacher, supporting K12 schools in multiple states.
