Bio

I prefer an inquiry based approach to learning where students work through problems and make discoveries that lead to a deeper conceptual understanding of the topic. I think creating personalized learning paths based on the students current understanding, needs, and goals is vital to success. Through our tutoring sessions, students will grow as learners, but I hope to also cultivate self-confidence within each student. They are capable of doing and learning hard things and I want them to believe that! Building positive and meaningful relationships with students is the foundation for their growth while I am working with them. I will work to get to know my students and their interest and show that I respect them and their thinking. I chose to become a tutor because I love helping students grow in their learning and realize they are capable of doing and learning anything they want if they're willing to work hard. Tutoring offers the ability to truly individualize instruction.

Teacher Specialization

I student taught in both 5th grade social studies and 8th grade math. I worked as a substitute teacher after becoming a certified teacher while pursuing a master's degree full-time. As a substitute, I worked in both math and social studies classes in grades 5-9 continuing with lessons the teacher would have taught. I have 5 years of tutoring experience in these areas as well. I completed my bachelor's in Middle Grades Math and Social Studies at Morehead State University with a minor in math.
