Bio
Hello everyone! My name is Mike and am thrilled to be tutor here at K12! I became a teacher of younger kids because I believe that children have a naturally adventurous, open minded, and inquisitive nature, and that it is the job of an educator to nourish and strengthen those characteristics, especially when they become discouraged or uninterested in that side of themselves. I enjoy teaching because I want to encourage children to open their minds to the abundance of knowledge that this world has to offer. I also want to ensure that they become productive, well-educated, contributing citizens while treating those around them with compassion and respect. Being a tutor and continuing to help and educate students of all ages helps me do that. When I'm not teaching I enjoy watching movies, hiking, biking, and watching sports (Go Celtics!). I also enjoy hanging out with the people I love - namely my family and my cat.
Teacher Specialization
I have worked several years as an elementary school teacher and have a Master's degree (M.Ed.) in Elementary Education from Westfield State University in Westfield, MA. I am also a certified Elementary (1-6) teacher in the state of Massachusetts. Additionally, I have worked as a paraprofessional, general educator, and substitute teacher at both the middle and high school levels, and have helped students with IEPs or learning disabilities 1-on-1 in class or in a resource room (we called it the "learning lab").
