Bio

My name is Taylor Roney and I am a certified K–12 mathematics teacher with over five years of experience in teaching and I am so excited to get to know you and your student! Throughout my career, I’ve taught everything from middle school math to AP Calculus, along with computer science and applied STEM courses. My teaching philosophy centers on relationships, communication, and confidence-building. I use a clear “I do, we do, you do” approach that helps students feel supported while gradually taking ownership of their learning. I believe math understanding grows through collaboration and patience, especially for students who have struggled in the past. Not only can I help students go deeper into the theories of math, but I also aim to make math understandable for all. I enjoy helping learners reach those “light bulb” moments and realize they are capable of understanding math.

Teacher Specialization

I hold a Master of Arts in Teaching and a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics with a minor in Computer Science. I have taught middle and high school mathematics including 6–8 math, Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, Honors math, and AP Calculus AB and BC. In addition to mathematics, I have taught computer science courses such as Python, HTML, JavaScript, block coding, and introductory programming, as well as coding drones. My tutoring experience spans over ten years and includes peer tutoring at the high school level, university tutoring from arithmetic through Calculus II, and online tutoring for the Western Tutoring Consortium. I served as a lead math tutor at Eastern Oregon University, supporting students in both in-person and virtual settings, and my recorded tutoring sessions continue to be used as training resources for future tutors. I have also provided targeted academic support for underprivileged and first-generation college students through the TRiO program.
