Bio
My name is Veronica C. Weatherspoon, and beyond my passion for mathematics education, I have dedicated myself to researching my family's genealogy since 1981. I love learning and it excites me to see the lightbulb going off in the minds of young people. I believe students learn best in a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment where they feel valued, encouraged, and confident enough to take academic risks. My instructional approach begins by building students' confidence through achievable tasks and positive reinforcement before gradually increasing the level of challenge. I believe that consistent encouragement, combined with continuous evaluation, helps students develop resilience, confidence, and a willingness to persevere through difficult concepts. I use ongoing formative assessment throughout each lesson to monitor understanding, provide timely feedback, and adjust instruction to meet students' needs. Nonetheless, building positive relationships is a priority for learning.
Teacher Specialization
I earned my bachelor's degree in mathematics, a master's degree in mathematics education and Doctorate's degree in Educational Administration all from Texas Southern University. My journey in education started in 1980 when I accepted a long-term Substitute position at Booker T. Washington HS. Thereafter, I taught Math at Jack Yates HS for 11 years. As I began focusing on my goals, I decided that I wanted to start working in Leadership positions. I was the assistant principal and later the principal of Tennyson MS in Waco ISD for 11 years. I had the privilege of opening another middle school in Waco ISD and we named it Brazos MS. I was there for 4 years and decided to move back to Houston. I have taught math from grades 7-12th; Algebra, Geometry, Algebra 2 and College Algebra. I have experience working online with students via Zoom and meeting with people on TEAMS.
