Bio
I'm Wendy Holmes, and I teach math and science. I am here to help you understand how to achieve success without having to rely on the Internet or AI! As we progress, I will let you know where your growing edges are so that you can focus on them when you are doing homework. We will step through examples, and I will give you techniques to help you remember how to complete them on your own when it comes time to take the test in class. I believe in helping you to understand WHY the answers are correct so that you can reproduce the work any time you want. We will start each session with an introduction to see where you are that day and then move on to doing problems and helping you get to the "root" of understanding the topics with which you may struggle. We'll talk about how to approach problems critically so you can then "figure them out" without anyone's help! I recognize the challenge of learning virtually, and I love helping online students. No questions are bad questions - bring them!
Teacher Specialization
I have Bachelor's degrees in Science/Math Education as well as in Journalism, and a Master's degree in Theology. Before 2020, I taught in traditional, in-person classrooms in North Alabama. After Covid caused many in-person schools to suspend operations, I began helping students through various online platforms, and I taught other teachers how to use online learning management platforms. For the past several years, I have taught exclusively online (for Stride). I have taught various students with different learning needs, including ADHD, learning disabilities, and giftedness. I also understand a good bit of Spanish and can help English learners with math and science vocabulary. Most recently, I have taught Algebra, Algebra 2, Trigonometry, Pre-Calculus, Biology, Chemistry, and Computer Science Principles.
