Bio
I believe students learn best when they are comfortable, engaged, and confident. When a student comes to me for tutoring, I will strive to help them feel capable and comfortable, so they are receptive to learning. I will use their interests to engage them and add a sprinkle of humor to keep it fun and interesting. With respect and active listening, I will foster a positive relationship in which students are ready to learn. I like to focus on a growth mindset in tutoring sessions. Everyone has strengths to build on and everyone has challenges to overcome. We figure out what we can do and use it to work toward the things we can't do...yet! I am an elementary school teacher and a mom. I like to play video games with my three kids - right now we are into Minecraft. I also enjoy painting miniatures and playing board games. I became a teacher and a tutor because I love to learn and I love to ignite that spark in others, especially kids who are frustrated and need a boost!
Teacher Specialization
I am an experienced elementary school teacher of grades 1 - 4 and worked as a Reading and Math Specialist supporting grades K-6. With Early Childhood and English Language Learning endorsements, plus a master's degree in education, I have a range of knowledge and experience to pull from. I've worked successfully with students of all types and backgrounds. I am ready to meet students where they are and develop an individualized plan to support them on the road to where they need to be.
