Bio
Hello, my name is Mrs. Stotts. I have 27 years of experience teaching elementary and middle school in three different states. I believe all students have unique talents and abilities and building on these strengths is the path to academic achievement. I want all of my students to be challenged to reach their highest potential through quality instruction that provides opportunities for success. I have a dog, Grover, and you will definitely meet him online.
Teacher Specialization
I have a Master of Education and a National Board Certification in Literacy. For the past ten years, I have taught English as a Second Language. I believe the foundation for reading is oral language...for multilingual learners, students with disabilities, even native English speakers. My teaching strengths are teaching reading and writing. Elementary students who are struggling to learn to read and write need direct, explicit, and systematic instruction. That means consistent tutoring sessions 2-3 times a week until grade-level skills are acquired. Often low grades in middle school are due to poor reading comprehension. I can help students learn and use strategies that will improve reading and writing skills in all content areas including language arts, science, social studies, and math. I have two children of my own who are now in college, so I also have lots of experience helping with homework at all grade levels.
