Bio
Hello! I am Ms. Als. As a tutor, I strongly believe students learn best when lessons are explicit, student-centered and individualized/differentiated towards their learning needs. In addition, students make learning gains when they receive immediate and specific feedback regarding their progress. Goals I have as a tutor include helping students achieve their academic targets and motivating them to gain more confidence in their learning. These goals will be achieved as I will utilize a variety of evidence-based practices and strategies such as visuals and guided practice. I plan to obtain positive and meaningful relationships with students by creating a supportive and inclusive environment that helps them feel safe and respected. My hope is that they feel I holistically care about them. While educating is a passion of mine, I also enjoy reading, exercising, spending time with family and friends and creating delicious recipes.
Teacher Specialization
I have been an educator for five years. My educational experience began as a paraprofessional, tutoring students one on one and in small groups. Soon after working as a paraprofessional, I became a certified elementary K-6 educator, and taught all the core subjects for third grade students. Within recent years, I have taught reading instruction as an English Language Arts teacher and Reading Interventionist for grades kindergarten through fifth grade. Additionally, I am reading endorsed and I am certified in English for Speakers of Other languages K-12. I have worked with a variety of student abilities, and had inclusion classes where many of the students were classified as ESE and ELL. As I taught, I used several online platforms as resources to engage students and enhance learning.
