Bio

Hello, my name is Ms. Osterman. I love tutoring students! I believe students learn best when they feel safe and know it is okay to make mistakes. I build rapport with each student, so they feel comfortable. I do this by greeting them each time I see them, showing them that I care about them and want to get to know them, and asking them questions about their interests, how they are feeling, and asking them to share when they are comfortable doing so. I also actively engage the students in their learning. One of my goals for students is to become more confident in their abilities. I want to help them learn tenacity, not to give up when something is difficult. I respect my students and care about both their academic and social-emotional well-being. I have a 24-year-old son and two dogs: Bailey and Barney. I love reading, traveling, watching movies, and animals. I'm looking forward to tutoring you!

Teacher Specialization

I'm a dedicated teacher with over 12 years of experience teaching elementary, middle, and high school students, including those in general and special education. I have worked for 6 years in special education with students with learning disabilities, developmental, and intellectual disabilities. I also received training in and taught the PAF reading program, based on the Orton-Gillingham method, to students who struggle with reading skills. I have a clear multiple-subject teaching credential, and I'm finishing my special education teaching credential. I also worked as an intervention teacher for students in elementary and middle school who were below grade level in ELA and/or Math skills. I have a B.A. in Psychology.
